Residents said that in the afternoon of July 6, the ZRA (Eastern Command) forcibly took 9 young men to recruit new soldiers in Tungzang Village, Tedim Township, Northern Chin State. The ten young people are children aged around 12 years old. “The people they took were 12-year-olds, school-aged. The people they took were not old enough to be armed soldiers. Why did they take ZRA children?” a local told Tongsan Media Group.

The parents of the children who are currently being recruited are worried and some of the mothers are said to have fainted. He said that the youths of the village were forced to flee due to the recruitment of ZRA soldiers. In addition, the residents said that in the two days of July 5th and 6th, the ZRA team was collecting lists of new recruits in Cikha town, Mauvom village, Kansauzang village, and Khuadam village in Tongzang township.

The youths of Cikha are fleeing to the Indian side because they threatened not to allow them to stay in Cikha if they did not join the ZRA forces. Residents said that ZRA told the villages that the salaries of the young people who were recruited must be paid by the villages. Locals say that the ZRA’s actions are worse than the Military Council’s actions.
