Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Commander-in-Chief has been appointed to the post of KIA Deputy Commander-in-Chief (1). On May 13, 2024 (13th) of 2024, the KIA Commander-in-Chief Lt. Gen. R Khao Phul, who passed away due to liver disease, was assigned to General Wang Hkang Aung Seng La.

In addition, former Deputy Chief of Staff (2) General Maran Zaw Taung has been appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff, according to a person close to the KIA military headquarters. The new Chief of Staff of the KIA, Major General Aung Nakhon Aung Seng La, has military experience and has served as a battalion commander and brigade commander in KIA battalion brigades.

In 2016, as KIA Deputy Chiefs of Staff, General Suon Wong Gwan Maw – Deputy Chief of Staff (1) who passed away, General R. Qukhkyawng Hkawng Lum, Deputy Chief of Staff (2) along with General Wang Hkang Aung Seng La also served as Deputy Chief of Staff (3). On May 18th, 2024, General Aung Hkang Aung Seng La served as Deputy Chief of Staff (1) in 2023 and became the Chief of Staff on May 18, 2024.

He is also a writer and has about 5 books written and published in Burmese. Deputy Chief of Staff General Maran Zaw Taung was a KIA intelligence officer and served in KIA’s Special Intelligence and Strategy Department, and became KIA Deputy Chief of Staff (2) in 2023.
