NATO announced on January 23 that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the head of the NATO Arms Procurement Agency, Stacey Cummins, signed an agreement to purchase and produce $1,200 million worth of heavy weapons and ammunition for the security of member countries and to continue helping Ukraine. The signing ceremony was held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
Jens Stoltenberg said that if the member countries are to continue to help Ukraine, which is fighting against the Russian aggression, the member countries also need to have enough ammunition. As Russia’s war of aggression has become a war of ammunition, Jens Stoltenberg said it is important for member states to replenish the necessary ammunition in time.
Since July 2023, NATO member countries have signed agreements to purchase $10 billion worth of arms and ammunition, so with the current contract, the total value is over $11 billion (over ten thousand million), Jens Stoltenberg said.
NATO Secretary of Defense Jens Stoltenberg said that the agreement to purchase, manufacture and collect includes more than $5 million for Patriot missiles, 155mm cannons and ammunition, and $4 million for anti-tank missiles and tank ammunition.
